The reef plateau at Karang Makassar seen from the air

An editorial desk, not a boat operator

We research, fact-check and publish trip-planning information about Manta Point. Komodo Luxury runs the boats. Keeping those two jobs apart is the entire premise.

Ask us something

In short

An independent English-language guide to Manta Point (Karang Makassar) in Komodo National Park, published by an editorial desk that is part of Juara Holding Group. Trips are fulfilled by Komodo Luxury.

  • We publish; Komodo Luxury operates
  • Every figure carries a named source
  • We say when we do not know

How we work

Four rules we actually hold to

Not a mission statement. These are testable, and you can check us against them.

Reef manta over the plateau

One figure per fact

Depth, season, distance and fee each get a single site-wide value. If two pages disagree, one of them is a bug and we want to hear about it.

Komodo National Park from the air

Named sources, dated

Fees come from the regulation and the park authority. Conditions come from what is reported at the site, not from what sells a trip.

We operate nothing

No boats, no crew, no departures. Every trip described here is run by Komodo Luxury, and this site may earn a referral commission when you book.

Images are labelled

Photographs come from Komodo Luxury and are credited. Where an image is a generated illustration, its caption says so.

Our relationship to Komodo Luxury

Manta Point Komodo and Komodo Luxury are both part of Juara Holding Group. We are not independent of them in a corporate sense and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What we are independent of is the sales pitch. This desk does not have a boat to fill on Tuesday, which is why it can tell you that a sunset cruise is a poor manta trip or that one day is one roll of the dice.

When you book, you book with Komodo Luxury. This site may earn a referral commission on that. Knowing it is the point of saying it.

What we will not publish

Three things this desk refuses, and the reasoning behind each.

Reef mantas in mid-water

Guaranteed sightings

Mantas are wild animals. No operator can promise one and anyone who does is selling. We would rather lose the booking than make the claim.

The reef plateau from the air

Numbers we cannot source

If nobody publishes a boat time from Labuan Bajo to Manta Alley, we say so rather than inventing a plausible-looking figure.

Komodo National Park from the air

Other people’s guesses

Travel sites cite each other until a guess becomes a fact. We go to the regulation, the park authority or the operator briefing instead.
