The islands of Komodo National Park seen from the air

Plan · Where to stay

Nobody sleeps at Manta Point

It is open water with no island. You sleep in Labuan Bajo, about an hour and a half away by speedboat, or aboard the boat itself on a liveaboard.

Ask about liveaboards

In short

Two options only: a hotel in Labuan Bajo, the gateway town on Flores, or a cabin on the trip boat. There is no accommodation at the site and no island close enough to change that.

  • Stay near the harbour for a 05:30 departure
  • Liveaboard removes the early commute entirely
  • Two nights minimum for a one-day trip

Areas

Where in town actually matters

The variable that counts is how far you are from the harbour at half past five in the morning.

Boats moored at a jetty

Harbour front

Walking distance to the boats. Noisier and busier, and worth it when your pickup is before dawn and you are not chasing a car through town.

Labuan Bajo and the islands from above

The hillside

Better views and quieter nights, ten to twenty minutes down to the harbour. Fine for a mid-morning departure, tight for a sunrise one.

Liveaboard at anchor at sunset

Aboard the boat

On a liveaboard you wake up already in the park. No transfer, no 05:00 alarm, and you are at the site before the day boats have left the harbour.

Not the pool. These are the things that decide how the morning goes.

Charge cameras the night before

If your flight lands late the day before, staying near the harbour rather than up the hill removes one variable from a morning that has too many already.
