Yes, wetsuits are recommended at Manta Point. Water is often 27–29 °C, but current, repeated dives and wind on the surface make many divers cold over a full day. A 3 mm full suit suits most people; cold‑sensitive divers or those combining northern sites with cooler southern locations often prefer 5 mm and a hooded vest for longer comfort.

Some operators offer date changes or alternative sites rather than cash refunds when weather stops a Manta Point visit, because boat, fuel and park costs are already committed. Others provide partial refunds or hold a credit for a later trip. Policies are not standardised, so you should ask in writing how weather, swell and park closures are treated before confirming any booking.

How do I get there from Labuan Bajo?

By liveaboard, in almost every case. We do not publish a boat time because it depends entirely on the operator’s route and vessel. Ask directly when booking.

Can I snorkel it?

It is generally recommended for certified divers rather than snorkellers. The depth, current and swell are all harder than the central channel.

Is the water really colder?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The exposed southern position sits inside seasonal upwelling. Operators commonly report 22–25°C at the height of the dry season, against 25–29°C at Manta Point.

Will it definitely be on my itinerary?

Not necessarily. Because it faces open ocean it is more likely than Manta Point to be dropped on a rough day, even when the rest of the route continues. Confirm it is scheduled, not just "weather permitting".

Same species — reef manta, roughly 3–4.5 metres. The difference is the conditions they are working in, not the animal.
