Boats anchored inside Komodo National Park

The Guide · Compared

Only one of these stops has mantas

Batu Bolong is a current-swept wall with no mantas. Pink Beach is a calm swim. Padar is a hike. Nusa Penida’s Manta Point is a different island entirely, 500 km away.

Build the right day

In short

If seeing a manta is the goal, Manta Point is the stop. Everything else on a standard Komodo itinerary is there for a different reason, and most days have room for two or three of them.

  • Komodo’s Manta Point is not Nusa Penida’s
  • Batu Bolong is coral and current, not mantas
  • Padar has no snorkelling at all

If you searched for Manta Point while planning a Bali trip, you probably want Nusa Penida. Do not carry Komodo’s park pricing across — the two are unrelated fee structures.

Same itinerary

What each stop is actually for

These are not competing choices so much as different jobs. A well-built day uses two or three of them.

Reef manta ray over the plateau

Manta Point

The only stop on most itineraries where you are likely to swim with reef mantas. Snorkel or dive, 8–18 m, mild to moderate current.

Dense fish school over a Komodo reef wall

Batu Bolong

A rock pinnacle between Komodo and Rinca with a soft-coral wall and strong, unpredictable current. Spectacular reef, macro life, no mantas.

Coral-pink sand at Pink Beach

Pink Beach

Coral fragments tint the sand pink. A calm, shallow swim with parrotfish — genuinely lovely, and not a manta site.

The three-bay viewpoint on Padar Island

Padar Island

A hiking viewpoint, and one of the most photographed vistas in Indonesia. No snorkelling or diving component at all.

Two reef mantas in open water

Manta Alley

The other real manta site, in south Komodo. Deeper, colder, stronger current, and mostly liveaboard-only.

Which comparison should decide your day

If a manta is the reason you booked the trip, the decision is already made and everything else is a bonus stop on the way there or back.

If you dive and want a reef rather than an animal, Batu Bolong is the better single dive. If you are travelling with young children or nervous swimmers, Pink Beach alone may suit better than open water with current.

Other comparison articles rank these differently because they are ranking on different criteria — reef quality, photography, ease — without saying which. Decide what you came for first, then the ordering is obvious.

Questions about choosing

Build the day around what you came for

Tell Komodo Luxury what matters most — the manta, the reef, the viewpoint — and they will order the stops so you actually get it rather than arriving late to all three.
